Hamna Hussain (Hamty), a dive instructor and a shark conservationist from the southern island of Fuvahmulah, shares her experience as a woman working in a male-dominated field.
She starred in a short documentary film called TIGEREYES directed by Martina Trepczyk which highlights her journey of becoming a female dive instructor from her island community, mental health struggles, and the power of the ocean. The award-winning short film has sparked conversations at film festivals worldwide, winning five awards and earning the prestigious title of finalist in the category ‘Breakthrough Film 2023’ at the Jackson Wild Media Awards.
In this exclusive interview with MV+, Hamty also shares the process of making the film, the challenges she had to overcome on her journey and her work to train more women divers in her island community.
